ABOUT CARTI

Shopify, only.

Why Shopify only?

When we started in 2011, the e-commerce platform market was fragmented. Magento was the default for serious stores. WooCommerce was getting popular with the WordPress crowd. Shopify was the upstart that mostly ran small DTC brands.

We could have gone broad — a full-service e-commerce agency with five platforms on the homepage. Most agencies did. We picked Shopify because the product roadmap was clearly the strongest, and we figured we'd rather be the best at one platform than mediocre at five.

That decision compounded. By 2017 we were Plus partners. By 2020 we'd shipped our first app. Today we have 22 apps live on the Shopify App Store. Every year on Shopify made the next year easier. The merchant we onboard today gets 14 years of accumulated context that a multi-platform agency can't match.

That's the trade. We say no to WooCommerce migrations that should stay on WooCommerce. We say no to Magento merchants who want to do both Magento and Shopify. We pass on the work that would dilute the bet. The work we do say yes to gets done by people who've seen this specific problem 100+ times before.

14 years in 8 milestones.

01

Founded

Three developers in Indore, India, decided to specialize in Shopify. First client: a small DTC apparel brand in California. Total revenue year one: $32,000.

2011

02

First 50 stores shipped

Mostly small DTC brands. Average project size: $4,500. Average team: 2 developers per project. No process documentation, just a shared Notion page.

2013

03

Became Shopify Plus partner

First Plus client was a fashion brand doing $4M/year on Magento that needed to move. Migration took 12 weeks (it'd take us 6 now). The Plus partner badge changed how seriously the market took us.

2017

04

Shipped first app

Volume Boost launched on the Shopify App Store in March 2020 — three weeks before COVID lockdowns. Decision: keep building apps alongside client work.

2020

05

100 stores shipped

Crossed 100 cumulative stores in Q3 2022. The 100th client was a wellness brand migrating from Squarespace. Team grew to 12 people across India and the US.

2022

06

22 apps live on the App Store

Our app catalog grew to 22 apps live on the Shopify App Store, with 12K+ active installs between them. App revenue now subsidizes our client work — letting us turn down projects that aren't a good fit.

2024

07

AI-assisted workflows

Started using Claude Code and GitHub Copilot on every project. The migration scripts that used to take 3 weeks now take 3 days. The 2 weeks freed up go into theme polish, conversion work, and faster client communication.

Project Manager. Owns project rhythm, demo cadence, and the Slack channel for every client engagement. The reason our 48-hour proposals are actually 48 hours.

Four principles we actually follow.

Specialization beats versatility.

14 years on one platform makes us slower to learn new things and faster at every Shopify-specific decision.

Fixed price, fixed timeline, no exceptions.

Hourly billing rewards slow work. Every project we ship has a fixed scope, a fixed price, and a fixed end date. If we under-quote, we eat the difference. We've done that 4 times in 14 years.

Senior-only on your project.

No junior developers learning on your store. Every engineer on every client project has 4+ years of Shopify experience.

Honesty over closing the deal.

We've talked clients out of migrating, out of Shopify Plus, out of redesigns. If your situation doesn't justify the cost, we'll tell you.
